Lego to enter MMO land

Lego my MMO!

The Lego Group, which makes the long-popular interlocking toys, said Monday that it is partnering with Colorado-based NetDevil to create a massively multiplayer online game.

Lego did not announce specifics of the game. NetDevil previously created a vehicular MMO game called "Auto Assault." However, the emphasis on attracting a younger audience means the Lego MMO game is likely to go the way of Ubisoft's "Puzzle Pirates," which has a very Lego-influenced visual style.

NetDevil's Web site said that the Lego MMO game is due out in 2008.

This isn't the first tech-related step for one of the simplest toys of all times. Lego building blocks have parlayed their appeal into video games, with the brand taking the spotlight in a pair of Star Wars-branded games from developer Traveller's Tales, as well as several other video games over the past decade.
